Abstract
The Erasmus+ project "Move as You Are" aims to promote the social inclusion of children with visual impairments through sports, highlighting the value of physical activity as a tool for personal development and active participation. As the first output of the project, the Booklet on Best Practices for Introducing Children with Visual Impairments to Sports has been developed—an innovative and practical tool designed for teachers, coaches, and educators.
The booklet provides guidelines on teaching strategies, sports adaptations, and inclusive methodologies, offering concrete examples to facilitate access to sports activities. This resource is the result of international collaboration among partners in Italy, Greece, and Portugal. Real Eyes Sport A.S.D, an Italian non-profit, promotes sports for people with visual impairments through direct experience and events. APALab, part of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, has 30 years of expertise in adapted physical activity for individuals with disabilities. The Municipio De Vila Nova De Famalicão, a local government body in Portugal, manages public sports and school facilities. Euphoria Net, an Italian company, specializes in EU project management and training in education and innovation.
Designed for widespread use across Europe, the booklet is available in English, Greek, Italian, and Portuguese. With its multilingual structure, it serves as an accessible tool to break down barriers and raise awareness about inclusion.
"Move as You Are" emphasizes that knowledge is key to inclusion: training and raising awareness among school and sports professionals empower children with visual impairments to develop autonomy, confidence, and skills, fostering a more inclusive society.
