Abstract

Introduction Depression is a chronic disease that is widely prevalent worldwide, characterized by high incidence, high disability rate, high recurrence rate, and high suicide rate. Over 40% of junior high school students in China have depressive symptoms. Depression is showing a trend of younger onset and increasing prevalence, and it is one of the common psychological disorders among junior high school students and the leading cause of suicide among them, with a significantly higher suicide rate than those without depressive symptoms. Physical activity can effectively improve psychological problems in adolescents, reduce depressive symptoms, and decrease self-harm behaviors. It is also the most economical and effective way to promote physical and mental health, intellectual development, and quality of life. Additionally, insufficient motor development is a common issue among Chinese adolescents. Based on this, this study will design relevant physical activity intervention programs in line with the motor development characteristics of junior high school students and verify the effectiveness and feasibility of physical activity in improving depressive symptoms in junior high school students through experiments, providing a reference for subsequent physical activity intervention experiments for the improvement of depressive symptoms in junior high school students. Methodology This study adopted a B1-B2 single subject experimental design, with a 14-year-old male (Y) as the research subject, and conducted a 12 week single subject experimental study on Y. 4 times a week, 45 minutes each time. Conduct independent sample t-tests and regression analysis on classroom observations of depression and data from the Depression Self Rating Scale to evaluate intervention effectiveness. Test the randomness of the data through autocorrelation analysis. All analyses were conducted in SPSS 26.0.

ResultsRegression analysis shows that with the intervention of exercise intervention, Y's depressive mood ( y=8.73-0.31x) showed a significant downward trend throughout the intervention process, indicating that the exercise intervention experiment has an improvement effect on Y's selective attention. The cumulative effect of the experiment is currently unknown. The t-test showed that there was a highly significant difference in depressive mood between stages B1 and B2 for Y (T depressive mood=-6.380, P<0.01)。 The Depression Self Rating Scale test showed that the overall score decreased from 76 to 50, and the overall rate of depression decreased by 34.21%.

Conclusions1. Motor game intervention can effectively promote the improvement of depressive symptoms in junior high school students, with more significant effects on anxiety and depression. 2. The basic motor skills of junior high school students may be related to depressive symptoms, with manipulative motor skills having a closer relationship with depressive symptoms. The development of basic motor skills may become the main content of motor game intervention for junior high school students.
